For the Milan Furniture Fair (Salone del Mobile), one of the most important international events in the furniture and design sector, we were commissioned to assess and optimise the lighting of an exhibition stand of about 850 sqm dedicated to presenting high-end furniture collections.
The goal was not simply to light the spaces, but to showcase the exhibition areas and the displayed furniture to their best, ensuring visual comfort, accurate perception of materials and strong aesthetic impact for visitors. In settings of this level, light becomes an essential tool to enhance the shapes, finishes, textures and details that define a brand's identity.
The project was developed through a detailed lighting design carried out with Dialux Evo, which made it possible to simulate and verify the lighting performance of the various areas before installation. This approach allowed us to optimise fixture positioning and identify the most effective solution for each space.
The chosen solution used Track Light systems equipped with 260 professional LED projectors fitted with 16° and 38° optics, carefully distributed across the stand according to specific lighting requirements.
The study covered several settings, including living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, meeting rooms and reception areas. By combining narrow and medium beams, we achieved an effective balance between general and accent lighting, highlighting products, finishes and architectural details without compromising visitors' visual comfort.
The Dialux Evo simulations made it possible to achieve illuminance levels calibrated for the different exhibition zones, with values ranging between 500 and over 1,500 lux. This strategy created a precise visual hierarchy, naturally guiding the visitor's attention towards the items of greatest interest and enhancing each area according to its purpose.
Particular attention was paid to the rendering of materials and surfaces, so that every setting best expressed the design and build quality of the displayed products. Light was therefore conceived not only as a functional element, but as an integral part of the exhibition experience.
The final result fully met expectations, as shown by the photographs taken during the event, which clearly capture the quality of the light, the enhancement of the spaces and the effectiveness of the design choices.
This project confirms how proper lighting design — supported by advanced simulation tools and a targeted selection of fixtures — can be a decisive factor in the success of a high-level exhibition setup.
